Things to do in Cockermouth
There’s loads to do in and around Cockermouth, whether you’re a local or a visitor. If you’re creative, try workshops to make everything from lampshades to clothes, or even print your own works of art. You can find them in some of our great independent businesses, or at venues on the outskirts of town too. If animal experiences are your thing, why not go horse riding or walking with alpacas? Or if you prefer some history and heritage, discover Wordsworth House & Garden or the fabulously quirky museum which is part of JB Banks’ hardware store.
Experiences in and around town
Explore what’s going on at Kirkgate Arts too – they offer cinema, music, drama and more, as well as experiences like crafts, cookery and writing. If you’re looking for something more energetic, there are loads of sports clubs and activities, not to mention a swimming pool and classes at Cockermouth Leisure Centre. Some of those clubs are focused on children, with sessions in the school holidays as well as termtime. There are plenty of walks and hikes from town too – we’re next to the Allerdale Ramble and close to the Cumbria Way, if you like a long route – or there’s plenty of wandering to be done, particularly following the paths of the River Derwent and River Cocker. Those who like two wheels rather than two feet can use the town as a base for part of the C2C cycle ride, or try the Cockermouth Loop, or you could hop on to the Sustrans network of cycle paths to visit the coast or lakes.
Whatever you choose, have a great time!
